She likens the experience to improv - horror, not comedy. "You have to get creative with your scares," she says. "You don't know what people are going to do, so you have to be willing to do whatever."
She pointed to the challenge of "staying in character" despite long lulls and a darkened work space: "It's not ever letting your guard down. You can't ever be like, 'Oh, I'm tired.' "
Being a "scarer" is closer to theatre performance than waiting tables, she says: "It's just a lot of fun. Basically come to work and play."
