"Absolutely, highway safety does not happen spontaneously," said OPP Constable Marc Depatie Thursday. "This is the result of comprehensive effort of law enforcement, where we are continuously monitoring."
Depatie said sometimes that means taking an older rusty car off the road for a couple hours so it can be put through a safety check carried out by auto technicians with the Ontario Ministry of Transportion (MTO). If the car passes, it goes back on the road. If it does not pass, the licence plates come off until the vehicle is repaired.
That's what was happening this week at the mechanical shops at the Northern College in Porcupine.
OPP were directing vehicles to the shop, where the MTO inspectors worked with mechanical apprenticeship students to give the vehicles a thorough inspection.
Depatie said vehicles are pulled over based on sight and sound indicators, which he said, has proved out in the past.
"Should a vehicle have some holes in the body, or perhaps a crack in the windshield all the way across, this indicates that perhaps the driver is not taking the responsibility of maintaining that vehicle seriously," said Depatie.
"It's all well and good that perhaps a vehicle's body may be less than pristine, but that betrays the fact that perhaps that person is not taking mechanical fitness requirements as diligently as they should,Our Fiber Optic Splice Closure is good in quality and competitive in price" said Depatie.
