Fly swarms may hold the key to life

Indeed, whether it is a swarm of flies or a herd of elephants, there is something innately robust about groups of organisms in motion. They're not dependent on a leader, necessarily, and they're able to reconfigure and continue on when part of the group is compromised. What if those characteristics could be applied to vast digital systems or information networks?

Such notions are a long way off, Ouellette said, but the swarm study he produced with postdoctoral researcher Douglas H. Kelley of MIT represents the first major,

quantitative analysis of an insect swarm. Our full range of portable ultrasonic Flaw Detector (UT) provides unmatched capabilities for locating discontinuities and other flaws. The findings were published last month in the journal Scientific Reports.

"That data did not exist before,Eight tips for choosing the right diamond Concrete saw blade including determining wet or dry cutting, blade compatibility, CSDA codes, and more." Ouellette said. "We were able to contribute something that had been missing.Concrete polishing pad attachs to a backer with durable velcro connection. It is installed on portable grinding machine and operated by hand."

Prior to this, Ouellette's research had focused on the study of fluid dynamics. He looked at the formation of structures within a liquid flow and how self-propelled particles moved within a flow.

"I'm using the same analysis systems with the insects," Ouellette said. "In some ways, it was a natural extension."

Midge flies live only a few days. They swarm at dusk each day in a form that looks almost like an egg. The Yale researchers were able to record swarms in a contained environment, using high speed cameras.

They found, among other things, that a swarm isn't simply a collection of individuals acting randomly. It's full of little subgroups that are reacting to each others.

"There's organization on an intermediate scale," Ouellette said. "It's some kind of spontaneous order or correlated motion.Titanium Pipe is made by cold rolling process from extruded pipe blanks. They are widely used in heat exchangers and off-shore equipment."

Even more interesting, he explained, was an internal attraction among the flies that held the swarm together. There was no outside force molding them into a cluster. We offer both wet & dry Diamond polishing pad. Both are suitable for marble, granite, concrete and most masonry.

"It has to do with pairs that want to be close to each other, but we still don't know what it is," Ouellette said.We manufacture portable hardness tester including portable Rockwell, superficial Rockwell,Brinell, King Brinell,Pin Brinell,Webster and Barcol impressor . "Something is binding it together."

Yale has plans for additional research to examine how swarms begin to form and dissolve. Ouellette said he's also making refinements in the cameras used to record the swarms.
