LTA Alarms of Electronic Waste

The Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) has warned electronic consumers, particularly those involved in the purchase of analogue electronic materials that they risk becoming victims of electronic waste by 2015 when all analogue electronic gadgets will automatically become obsolete to give way to the digital age.

In an interview with this paper last week, LTA Commissioner for Engineering and Technology Henry W. Benson said currently in Liberia, "We are mostly broadcasting and running our television channels on mere analogue frequency."

Reflecting on the ITU's mandate setting June 15, 2015 as deadline for all countries to migrate to digital materials, Commissioner Benson said every single country on the face of the earth that has conformed to the ITU should migrate from analogue to digital.

But he argued that since those television stations and other electronic devices that are built on analogue platform cannot be used in countries that have already migrated to the digital system ahead of the 2015 deadline, they are being dumped in Liberia and other African countries at cheap prices.Our full range of portable ultrasonic Flaw Detector (UT) provides unmatched capabilities for locating discontinuities and other flaws.
